Last Days - these places are now ruins Last Days :: These Places Are Now Ruins

purchase cd download listen

Last Days' follow up to 2006's "Sea" "These Places Are Now Ruins" is by the artist's admission a personal journey about revisiting the past and accepting the present is something we can all truly identify with. The album tells, strictly through feelings, of expectations, disappointments, distance, and the futility of attempting to reclaim lost memories. "These Places Are Now Ruins" is not so much a concept as "Sea" but instead a loosely chronological album documenting thoughts and emotions experienced when returning home after having moved away. The result is often dark and abstract when recalling fears or memories we can't forget but also touching on moments when one explores hopes for the future and the impact loved ones and special times have had on our lives. Last Days' sound remains at times cinematic yet slightly lo-fi and now features more live instrumentation giving "These Places Are Now Ruins" a wider diversity and more fullness of sound. Few things stay the same an! d those things we wish would change never do. "These Places Are Now Ruins" examines theses themes and over its duration accepts that it's sometimes best for us all to leave the past where it is…

ntp - osc Near The Parenthesis :: Of Soft Construction

preview

San Francisco based musician Tim Arndt brings his Near the Parenthesis project to n5MD with the release of his second album "Of Soft Construction." This sophomore effort finds Arndt luring his potent song writing capabilities to the forefront yielding something truly exceptional. Spiraling piano sonnets are juxtaposed against sweeping cascades of grainy synth-washes and agile, yet carefully executed, beat-work. Add in an occasional mid radio station listen-in on a seemingly unfinished conversation and you have an idea of "Of Soft Construction's" perfected audible DNA. Near the Parenthesis has proven that he is yet another artist to capture the n5MD ethos in its truest most honest form..

hologram - hologram + hologram :: hologram +

preview

Hologram makes its North American debut via the n5MD imprint with their album "hologram +." "hologram +" melds together detailed post-rock instrumentation, subtle electronic textures, and thoughtful, yet meaningful, female vocals. While their carefully crafted songs may seem a bit out of place on a label founded on emotional electronics, upon further listens one finds that they are right at home amongst such kindred spirits as label-mates lights out asia and bitcrush. Hologram's direction reflects an original take on familiar genre themes, but pushes way beyond specific genre trappings by tossing aside the clichés and commonality to focus on the raw emotion involved in creating music. Hologram is exclusively licensed outside of Japan via Zankyo Records.
